Assignment was to create mockups of the game’s main menu and in-game UI.
As seen above, the menu is a dark night illuminated by fireflies. It’s simple, elegant, and fits into the game’s theme of light and darkness.
The game’s UI doesn’t need to convey much information. The fireflies in the top left indicate your health, and below it is your currently active item and its quantity. Anything else you need to know about how many fireflies you have can be ascertained by just looking at how many are buzzing around your character.
If I were to design a controller for this game, I would probably go for some hybrid cross between the classical NES controller and the SNES controller. Two buttons for basic attacking and special items, two shoulder buttons for navigating your inventory to select a new item, and a directional pad to move.
This is the prototype of our team’s game, Glow. You play as Freyja, a little girl on a quest to rescue the fireflies and drive off the darkness.
Controls are WASD to move and mouse click or spacebar to attack.

My core vision was to make a sandbox game, due to how much I love freedom and expression. So, I went ahead and made a sandbox game in Unity:

This week’s assignment was to find a nice shader and show it off as well as make some scripts to fiddle with shader settings.
I have made a simulation utilizing my Abstractogon code to show off the X-Ray shader. It can be downloaded for PC here.
Controls are WASD to move, Mouse to look, and X to toggle your X-Ray vision.
